What Tara described is like what I do for ’Instacart’ it’s called ”On Demand” and whenever someone puts an order from grocery store in I (and the other people here who do it - p*ss off, get out of my zone ) get a notification for it and we can accept it if we want. The pay goes up if no one accepts it and it’s usually good that way as there aren’t many people working in this zone so the pay usually goes up (by $2 every 5 minutes I’ve noticed and sort of tops off at $12 or so in extra pay on the regular pay). I would hate to be in a zone that wasn’t ”On Demand”. I joined a ’Facebook’ group for shoppers in Canada and busy places like Toronto have shifts instead and it’s like you’re on shift and you have to be on guard for them to come in and you have to set them for times you’re free. With ”On Demand” you can take one whenever there is one if you can. I’ve looked on the app on my phone in the different parts of it and there’s only 4 other shoppers in my zone. And I’m #1 for speed. It says my average speed is 89 seconds per item and the next person is 109. The ones on the bottom of the leaderboard thing used to be 200+ but it doesn’t say that anymore. I think there may be more than just 5 now.

There is only one store they have here where I am that people can shop from and it’s a grocery store and they also have cosmetics, a pharmacy and health stuff, some home stuff, and clothes. It’s interesting whenever I get new orders to see what people order. Now I know they can shop from the cosmetics/health area as I’ve gotten orders with deodorant, bandaids, pills, shampoo, etc. in it but I haven’t gotten any with bigger home stuff (like a pillow or something) or clothes. I don’t know if they can buy from the clothes department or the home department.

there's a week and a half until school starts and I still don't have a job. I'm not freaking out or anything. Totally fine.

After this school year I'll have finished my masters degree and I'll probably have government clearance that I'll need to get into the field I want. I'm excited about this but I think I'll end up missing being a teacher.

school has been chaotic and crazy and my hours really suck but it's been really nice to be in the classroom again. even if it's with 6 year olds.

There's about three temporary and/or part time jobs I think I'm going to apply for very soon, even today. I need more money lol. I'm basically unemployed right now. I guess I feel somewhat proud of myself as before I was in university I probably could never imagine having a job. I was even too nervous to check out at a store by myself.
I'm going to apply for a stock person job that just came up today I saw for a shoe store in my local mall (part time, doesn't say if temporary or permanent or term), an associate or basic employee at a store called 'Winners' (like 'TJ Maxx' or 'Marshall's'), and a part time merchandising job at 'Shoppers Drug Mart'. I didn't think I'd ever work there...They have (somewhat) stupid uniforms you have to wear if you're an employee there. I think Drake worked there (for the company) before he was famous as he has one of the stores as part of one of his music videos I remember. Hopefully I will hear some answer from at least one of them. It's so true what I heard a teacher or someone say in high school (that I've posted on this forum before) that once you start working you never stop. Because it's nice to be able to have money (or extra money). You can't do anything in this world without money sadly.

if anyone was kind of wondering what we make at work, if you've ever seen a Longhorn Menu, that's basically the main thing we do. My dad designed the Longhorn Menu but didn't copyright it so they had someone else make them instead. We don't make much for hotels and restaurants anymore as it's the digital age so the end is nigh. This post turned quite depressing, I'm sorry. Anyway to make the corners that the paper menu goes in, all you have to do is fold little strips of materiel on the corners and tape them on the back and there you go. The panel holding the menu is probably taped down with a strong two sided tape.

PSA
it is never ever EVER okay to throw things onto the belt at the grocery store or at the cashier!!!! The belts in my store are nearly 40 years old and they break all the time. If the belt breaks we can’t serve you. You know what that means? LINE-UPS! Also throwing things is just rude. I make minimum wage, I don’t get paid enough to deal with your attitude.

I’m kind of pissed off with my work right now. A lot of other stores are giving their employees $200-$300 dollar bonuses for working through the pandemic and my store is only offering a 30% discount on 1 purchase up to $400. So I still have to spend my money at my store. It’s such a rip off. My company is owned by the 4th richest man in the country. You’d think they’d be a little less greedy! What do I know?
