Only 4 more weeks until I'm unemployed for the whole summer. I'm so excited! This is the first summer that I'll have to work on whatever video game I want to create. Every video game I created so far has been for school but now I'm doing it for myself and I'm really looking forward to it.

I tweaked my back a few days ago and I finally went to the doctor today and he's suggesting I take a week off of work. Now given the time frame I don't think I'll need that long. It's already been a few days so I'm hoping that by Tuesday, I'll be well enough to work. I called in sick for tomorrow, I'm just kind of bummed about it. I hate calling in to work.

I miss work I want to work with the babies again. In another news, I'm really proud of the recent efforts of my union in demanding higher pay and to be acknowledged as the professionals we are!

I know this is for talking ABOUT our jobs but I'm going to complain about not having a job for a little bit because I'm frustrated that I can't seem to find a teaching job around where I just moved. If something could come around soon and actually work out, that would be fantastic because I really don't want to handle any more panic attacks about not having a job

Struggling with work at the moment. I'm aware that it's good to have a steady income and enough freedom at work. But if I compare work to the time outside of work, it's heavily underwhelming. It feels like I'm dragged under water everytime I'm at work. In my private life I made important steps: therapy has been an amazing journey. I started nice new hobbies, like playing the piano and cycling. Work is such a large part of your time. I would like it to be less tiring and frustrating.

Happy days. The lady who interviewed me immediately asked if I would come on as a teacher when I'm finished uni. Even though there is already a shortage of Kindergarten teachers, from next year the regulations require another teacher on premises. She said they offer packages to attract applicants and everywhere will be competing for teachers. I hadn't thought too much about this aspect of the change, but not long ago a friend of mine (who is a manager elsewhere) asked if I would come and work for her too. Job security just gives me a lot of peace of mind, lol. In most cases this means I can negotiate pay and work hours too. π

Tomorrow there's going to be a strike at work. Half the year has already passed and we still don't have a renewed collective labor agreement. The company I work at wants to cut back on days off for everyone and extras for older employees. The last proposal was not that bad, but still not good enough.

They still have the pay rates for last year so I get paid the same amount per hour this summer for my summer job. I think it's about $14.23 or something like that. I wish they'd raise it to $15 something but that's pushing it I guess. But the minimum wage went up at least $0.15 over the past year so they should have increased pay. I emailed human resources to ask if the pay rate was the same a few months ago and they said something about an agreement hasn't been reached. They'll probably make an agreement and raise wages once I'm back in university in the fall. :/

To maintain flexibility with my study, I chose to apply for the casual pool. After my induction yesterday, I wasn't sure how many shifts to expect (the gamble with casual work being no guarantee of shifts). To my surprise (and excitement!), I've already been booked for the rest of the week. Being a casual employee has come a loooong way. I hated being on-call, having to be ready every morning with no idea whether they'd need me, and having to race to wherever it was in the nick of time. With my new employer, they've introduced this 'Relief Ruler' app which was initially for school teachers, but due to demand, was adapted for early childhood as well. So there's no waiting by the phone from 7am, no pressure, they just post available shifts through this app which you can either accept or just ignore. It's the best thing since sliced bread. And ofc, I get paid casual rate
