I find that if you ever apply at a grocery store it's better to fill in an application and bring it directly to the store. I got hired off of an online ad but that is RARE for my store. Also if you can avoid it, don't apply at Walmart. They are HORRIBLE to their employees. If you ever need a reference you can use me lol. Yeah I took two applications into stores I think but an employee took the papers not the manager so I guess they don't usually call people like that...I do like 'Walmart' but I've applied to their online ads like 6 times and never got one call. And my mom knows a lot about our local store as she's a merchandiser and people who work there aren't happy because they got rid of department managers and they also recently got rid of a lot of checkout tills because they put in two different areas of like 12 self-checkout lanes and there's only like 5- 8 or something actual checkout lanes with people cashiers at them so it would be even harder to get a job as a cashier there now. I also applied at a few dollar stores and I would probably like working there but they didn't call back either. Thank you, that's very nice of you to say and do that. I don't know if I'll get a job at a store as a cashier though as I think I'll have the same full-time summer job next summer as I did this past summer so I won't have time to have a part-time job as a cashier. I guess I maybe could but it would have to be only one or two nights a week or something. I wouldn't want to take on another job I don't think while I'm in university. I have a job at my university as a dishwasher for the 'Biology' department and a job for marking exams for a 'Geography' first-year course and I'm taking 6 courses which is an overload as 5 is the usual full-load for courses in a term. Yeah, working when you're in school is tough. I couldn't work at all in my last semester because I was spending most of my time working on my projects. You're so lucky to have a job at your school! My old school only ever hired students to work in the pub and they weren't very accommodating. My school was very small though so that might be the difference.

Next term (winter term) I will be taking either 5 or 6 courses (I'm on the waiting list for one course even still after months of already being registered for it) but I only have one lab (on Friday's which is annoying), and one guy at my summer job on my last day said something about they could maybe have me on part-time if I have time. I'm too busy this term but maybe next term I could even work a few afternoons a week. Yeah, working when you're in school is tough. I added to my post so I edited this post in my quote to reflect what I had my post as at the end haha. My university is good as they have a lot of student jobs. This summer there was like 20 jobs on there at the end of August. Most of them are marking jobs in different departments (mostly for 'Science' departments) but it depends on what course it's for as you have to have taken that course to be able to mark for it and have a good grade in it. There's some research jobs too to help professors do research sometimes. The only non-marking or non-research ones I've seen are ones to help with student services with different things, and then there's this dishwashing job I do for the 'Biology' department (I did it last year too) and also a greenhouse assistant job for the 'Biology' department. I wonder why I haven't seen a dishwashing job for the 'Chemistry' department too as they experiments too with glassware and stuff. I looked on 'Google' and apparently as of 2015 it said there was over 3,000 undergraduate students at my university.

I think the difference is that I went to a college and not a university and my college (compared to other schools) was pretty small. They claim to have over 10,000 students but honestly, in my time there I never say that many people roaming the halls and if you were to compare that to U of T then that's a sliver of their population. I did apply to a few on campus jobs while I was there but I had no luck. However, I did work at bath and body works for the weekends during the holidays (granted I had to go home to do so but I went home most weekends anyways) so I wasn't completely without money the whole time.

It just seems boring when I'm in there and think about how it would be like to work there. I wouldn't be good at asking people what they're looking for, etc. as an associate job thing.

Well at BBW there's 3 different types of positions. There's stock which is putting out merchandise, sales associate which is basically selling people stuff and there's cash which is basically ringing through orders. However you have to learn how to do everything there. I was mostly a stock person but if someone came up to me asking me about a product I would still have to help them. They train you though, and there's sort of a script you have to follow. Also you have to get a good sniff of all the products so if someone asks for something flowery you have to know what is flowery. They have a little cheat book that you can carry around if someone asks for something with a specific scent (like freesia or bergamot for example) but the more you're there the less you need it. It's a lot less intimidating then it sounds. Now would actually be the best time to apply there because they need all the seasonal help they can get. However the turnover rate is high and they don't keep people on for a long time there. Also the hours can kind of suck sometimes (especially during the summer). It's sort of ideal if you're a student though cause you're not really looking for a ton of hours when your in school anyways....

I worked a 9 to 5 job for 11 years. I worked as a cashier. I do not miss it. I hated the fact that the customers were always right and they could get away with almost anything. I also hated the managers sometimes. But to be fair it wasn't always bad. Most people say what I do now is not a job. But some people say it is. They call me a domestic engineer. I laugh at that. But then again I don't just sit on the couch all day and eat ice cream. I wish I could do that. My husband has old fashion ideas. He expects me to take care of him and our place. I need to cook three meals a day, clean,do laundry, pay the bills, and more. So I guess I do have a job.

But I haven't seen an advertisement for that in a long time or maybe I've never seen one. I've seen advertisements for sales associate or cashier or something for my local store. I tried applying around the same time of the year last year but I never got called. I don't think I'll apply this year as I have two university part time jobs. And next term I will have more time as I only have one lab but I might be able to work part time at my previous summer full time job.

Everyone is pretty much under the sales associate title. Either way I think you're better off where you are anyways. BBW wasn't always the most accommodating and jobs at your school can be hard to come by.

I work at a salt factory where I have been for 20 years. I pack Bigbags in the package. Someone of 500 kilos, someone of 1000 kilo and someone of 1200 kilos. I do not like to get up early in the morning. That's why I work from 1:50 PM. to 10:45 PM. And then I have a long weegend, because I have free Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's really nice.
Here's a movie about my workplace.

There are some days where I work customer service at my work where I feel like it's so busy that I'm running a marathon. Today was one of those days.

I really enjoy beating previous records at work. Like every few months we do this privacy signs (I am so damn proud there’s a picture on Google I probably did this one) We make the signs and burn the rope and tie them at the ends in the sign. I’m known as a professional knot tier. We do 12,000 to 17,000 at a time, so I’m currently doing them right now and it’s going slow but usually I’m pretty good at it, the signs to be tied are in stacks of 25 and I think it’s a record six minutes to do a stack. My typical end of day result is 1,500 signs but my record is 2,125, I think. I really love beating the all time record although I don’t think I ever will again, but it’s typical and fun to beat what I did the day before. I guess it’s a good mindset to have for work.
