Now that I’ve had some more listens again to Wonderland and New Romantics…. I’m love/dislike on them. I checked Reddit and there’s a strong consensus on Style. I’m not gonna knock on it too harshly, I just don’t like this version.
I feel like Taylor went through Speak Now to get to here basically discounting it. Which I think has soured me some on 1989 TV.
It also feels like she wanted this one to be like over special and I feel like she may have worked on this one a lot longer behind the scenes.
It’s the mixing that’s killing me here. The vocals are good Taylor has much more control.
I’m not opposed to Synth at all. I love 1980s music and CHVRCHES is one of my favorite Synth bands. Go listen to Nation Of Language who is synth and I love them too!
I’m struggling I guess!

Go listen to Nation Of Language who is synth and I love them too! I’m struggling I guess! You know it's weird. I personally didn't notice too much difference between the OG's the re-records. I think the newer ones have a bit of a wider soundscape and they're a bit punchier but that's not me. The only part of the re-recorded version thats kind of bugging me is they added these "HOOWA" sounds to the back of the talking part on Shake It Off. I think the songs sound really different on different speakers though. Like on the listening party, I was listening to it through the sonos speakers in my living room and it seemed pretty similar. I think listening through headphones makes certain things stand out more. I also think that the thing with the original is that the parts that were a bit more muffled kind of lead to the aestethic where everything kind of sounds shiny and new on the re-record (does that make any sense?) I think such is the case with all the re-records that it takes some time to adjust to them after listening to the origial for 10 years.

Now we know where Sweeter Than Fiction (TSV) will end up in.

The vault tracks are okay, but nothing special. There’s not a single one that would be a serious contender to be on the album. Taylor made the right choice.

I love all the vault tracks. I think the fandom is sleeping on Suburban Legends especially, which is weird considering it was one people were excited for.
