Over here it’s going in the wrong direction again too. Over the last month cases have doubled. Most infections are amongst kids and young adults. It doesn’t surprise me. It was the obvious consequence of opening up schools. Eventhough kids and teenagers/students probably won’t die from it. They take it home and spread it like wildfire. Even amongst students the rate of hospitalizations is not that low. And it can have bad effects on your health long term. It’s scary to hear people planning so much stuff for Easter. Exactly the same here. And we have numbers like christmas again, but kids and teens are more infected, but schools should stay open they said. Thursday they said eastern everything will be closed, even on thursday and saturday, two days after they announced that they took it back.

We just logged over 9,000 new cases each day for 2 straight days. The government just decided to put the capital region and the provinces immediately outside it (including mine) under the strictest lockdown starting Monday until Easter Sunday. And the strict lockdown has been extended again for another week. The government is reviewing the situation every week to see if the lockdown can be loosened a bit.

I got my vaccine as well! I got the Johnson&Johnson vaccine. That’s the single-dose vaccine, right?

I got my vaccine as well! I got the Johnson&Johnson vaccine. And you're only in your 20's? Do they not have as strict of rules or guidelines in the U.S.? I probably won't be able to even get it until May or June.

Almost my whole family is vaccinated now.

My mom and dad were supposed to get theirs on May 1st (I don't know if it is first one or the only one) but now my dad is hesitating because he heard a woman's (older) mom and dad got the vaccine and the next day the woman had a stroke. And then another stroke the day after that I think. And she didn't really have anything wrong with her before getting the vaccine (no condition). It's the 'Pfizer' vaccine I believe, which is what my parents would be getting.

It’s the one in the news lately that reported rare cases of blood clots among those who took it. I never heard any adverse effects among my friends and relatives who took the Pfizer jabs.

Here they still are vaccinating only people who are older than 60 years, and just very few at the doctors. I guess people who are 40 and younger will not get vaccinated befor october or november.

It’s quite troubling. To be safe they don’t give people under 60 AstraZeneca. But there are already cases of the same problems with people really close to 60 and even some over 60. The percentage is really small, but the numbers are not insignificant, especially when you consider we just started ramping up the use of AstraZeneca. Another alarming message is that the Johnson&Johnson/Janssen vaccine seems to show the same problems. Some say it’s more important to get people vaccinated to prevent people getting sick or dying. But I don’t entirely agree with that. It’s better to lock down and avoid contact with others for a bit longer and wait for the safe vaccines. Maybe an alternative is to let people take the risky vaccines voluntarily.

It's interesting hearing about the different rates. Here we're up to everyone over 50 being vaccinated (as well as those with long term health conditions and all that too). Everyone should have been offered their first jab by the end of June, so it's not too long to wait. We're not doing Johnson & Johnson in the UK (yet) so everyone has to get two. We're also not offering AstraZenaca to anyone under 30, which tbh I think is a bit ridiculous. Women are more at risk of developing a blood clot from taking birth control than the entire population is at risk of getting a blood clot from the vaccine, yet it's perfectly acceptable to take birth control. I think it's a bit over sensationalised.

I think it's a bit over sensationalised. It's going slow over here. 10% of the population got a first shot, 5% got a second shot. They're just getting started with people under 75. In fairness, they're also vaccinating people of all ages with health risks. Still it's hard to believe that everyone will get the chance to get vaccinated by July. I've heard the argument of birth control having the same risk of blood cloths. Yet I wonder why you never hear a woman dying from it. When a few people died after vaccination I wasn't worried, because it could be a coincidence and due to other health problems. But we're already up to 50-100 people having those problems after vaccination. And especially healthy people having those problems is alarming. I agree that media are probably focusing a bit too much on this. But it doesn't feel completely safe. Considering the data are very recent, there might be even more to it. I appreciate our government taking no risks with it. We've been in this for so long, a bit more time is not a big deal. Even when most people are vaccinated we need to be cautious anyway. Going back to normal quickly would be a big mistake.
