Okay, I KNOW I AM OLD FASHIONED, but does anyone know a good library for music? iTunes is bowing out soon so that's not an option. I've got Sony's 'MediaGo' at the moment. It's alright but once this laptop carks it, which is probably not far off... 😬, I'd like to try something different. wait wait wait, what's happening to iTunes? How's life under that rock going Apple is shutting down iTunes.

If you've got music on iTunes you'll still be able to access it via Apple Music if you can't find a suitable replacement for a while! It's basically just that they're splitting up iTunes into Music, Podcasts, and TV as separate apps and pushing subscription over buying for those who didn't know it was happening.

I wonder if you can 'upload' music into that library... Anyway, it's not a big deal, I'm just more of a buyer than a streamer so I need some sort of system to be able to manage the files and distribute them across my devices.

I think (it's been a while since I read about it!) that you can still buy in a tab in the Apple Music app once the switch is made

I thought it was just splitting up the iTunes software, mainly making a separate programm for the store. I assume you still can buy songs in the Music Store, so there has to be an application to play your songs (and also add your own library). The only thing I’m worried about is that it’s too much combined with Apple Music. That’s already a problem in the current iTunes version. I had a trial version of Apple Music. My library is still a mess from listening to those songs. iTunes always tries to connect to Apple Music.

Well dang, I guess Lover will be the last album I buy on iTunes then. Kind of sad to see it go though. I grew up with iTunes.

I think it's stupid they're getting rid of 'iTunes'. So there will be no more 'iTunes Store'? That's pretty stupid. How will people like me buy music now?

The system won't disappear, only the app will change. In the future you can buy songs and play them with the Apple Music app that's going to come out.

It’s also because the number of people buying music digitally is so low that it’s just not worth maintaining two apps any more. I never expected that buying musically digitally would essentially die out before buying music physically did.

But once you're on the road, I would imagine streaming is inconvenient. I don't know the numbers of buying digitally and physically. But yeah, you're right that it's a miracle that buying CDs does still exist if you compare it to how fast things change in other areas. The other day I was thinking that having a cable TV subsciption is almost completely unnecessary for me. I only watch sports regularly. The rest is not worth it and I could switch to Netflix for series, movies. Or to Youtube for things that interest me.

Now that you mention it, that is surprising.....I liked the iTunes versions of songs because they were in m4a format but I'd rather buy CDs/vinyls now. It's nice to own a physical copy. And where possible, I like to have the highest sound quality.

I have the free version of Spotify but I've never subbed I think bc, like I said, I prefer physical copies of stuff but also (again, I'm gonna sound like a grandma), I'm not on a phone plan so I don't have unlimited data. I just don't use my phone enough to justify paying for a plan which are like $60 a month or so here...I always buy my phones outright then just prepay about $20 a month and that's more than enough for me. And I don't really listen to a lot of artists outside of Taylor...most of the time it is just Taylor. So I guess in that way it's just where I put my money type of thing...I do have Netflix, I love it. I get enough use out of it, and the subscription is more than affordable, and my family can use it as well so it's win-win.

You can download via most streaming services if you have a paid for subscription which is fine for on the road. Spotify is only £5 a month for students or £10 a month for everyone else here so nearly everyone has the full version. We also have big data packages in the UK (idk if everywhere else does) but I have 15gb a month and stream music most of the time I'm out of the house and not at uni and I've never run out of data.
