Part i; what is mbti?
So typology is just another word for personality. XD There are lots of different ways of classifying your personality, but one of the most common ways now (and the one that I’m probably the most familiar with but still not really) is
mbti. There are
16 personality types for mbti, and all of them are istj, isfj, intj, infj, istp, intp, isfp, infp, estp, esfp, entp, enfp, estj, entj, esfj and enfj. So everyone is one of those, you’re born with your personality type and though you never change it (like you can’t go from an istj to an isfj), you can always grow in your personality type, like by improving on your self and recognising your strengths and weaknesses!
So as you’ll notice, each type is made out of 4 letters. I recently learned what they mean and how to work them out, but it’s hard, so bear with me. XD
The Functions (what they are, mean and what they're used for)
The four letters in your mbti are actually functions, and they are in the order of importance and how often you should use them. I don't really understand much yet to be honest, but
this site is really useful!
There are four functions that make up your personality;
feeling, intuition, sensing and thinking. Everyone has these four functions, but each personality has them in different orders, and different ways of being used [
introverted/extroverted - being introverted or extroverted has nothing to do with how sociable you are, it’s about how you gain energy, from your surroundings (extroverted), or from yourself (introverted). Likeee for example, if your way of thinking is introverted, you would come up with one idea and focus on that. But if your thinking was more extroverted, you would come up with one idea and that would lead on to the next idea and the next and so on. XD]
Anyway!! The first function is called the
dominant function, it controls your goals and desires and identity, and if you use it as much as you can, you'll feel satisfied. But if you don’t use this function right, you might lose focus, have negative feelings and have low self esteem. So your dominant function (the first function) is your most important function and the one you use the most.
The second one is called the
auxiliary function, it sort of supports the dominant function. It is often used for helping yourself and maintaining mental stability!
The third function is called the
tertiary function, it's used as a psychological defence mechanism. Like in awkward or uncomfortable situations, this function helps you to distance yourself from unwanted feelings.
Finally, the fourth function is called the
inferior function, it is the function we use the least and so our weakness. We need to work on improving on this part of our personality.
So an example!! I'm an infp, so my functions are introverted feeling (fi), extroverted intuition (ne), introverted sensing (si) and extroverted thinking (te). I can help you guys work out what your functions are if you need the help! but anyway, this means that fi is my dominant function, which means that I value and think about my beliefs, feelings and opinions the most. ne is my auxiliary function, which means that my intuition helps and supports my values and beliefs (my dominant function. si my tertiary function, which means that a lot of my perception comes from my personal experiences, and what makes my world structured. and finally, te is my inferior function, which means I don't solve problems or think logically that well. XD
If you don't know what your mbti is, you should take a test (although they aren't that reliable, because they require you to answer yes/no questions when personality is a lot more complex than that), then talk to me about it!!
If you do know what your mbti is, you should read about it
here to fully understand your strengths and weaknesses, and exactly what everything means!
