My biggest concern is that people fail to realize that a tattoo is permanent. You’re stuck with it for life. It might be a fun idea or expression at one moment in life, but that feeling for sure won’t last. It’s also important to think about how you want to be perceived in society. You can say that you don’t care what others think, but it won’t be nice te be judged before people even know you or when you get rejected for a job. And being beautiful or cool is not determined by the amount of ink or metal you wear. The majority of people no longer have any negative notions towards tattoos. Most jobs won't care any more even, unless they're face tattoos or offensive or the job heavily relies on you looking a certain way. A lot of teachers and bankers and other 'serious' jobs are held by people with tattoos these days. I wouldn’t count on it. Lots of younger people don’t mind it that much, but within the establishment there’s hardly anybody who’s okay with it. As long as you can cover it up, you’re fine of course. But visible tattoos will give you a big disadvantage and so do piercings. I’ve worked with many people from all classes, but people with tattoos or piercings are very quickly perceived as lower class, trust me. And statistically that’s correct.

I just have my lobes and my right ear's helix (or cartilage whatever you wanna call it) pierced. I almost kind of want an industrial piercing but it would probably look silly on me. Basically, I'm cool with any piercings as long as it's not in a weird spot like on a foot or something or when people get those extreme ones where it looks like their back is laced up like a corset. *shivers* As for tattoos, I'd probably be like Phoebe on Friends and end up with a tiny dot of ink because I chickened out! That's if I ever decide to get one... Face tattoos are weird, though this wrestler I like has a tiny crescent moon I think under his left eye. Anyway, I think it's cool when people have a few tattoos or decide to cover their arms, legs, chest, and back with them! Same for piercings except for extreme ones or oddly placed ones.

I’ve worked with many people from all classes, but people with tattoos or piercings are very quickly perceived as lower class, trust me. And statistically that’s correct. Younger generations will be the ones running the show soon enough anyway, and if people are going to be classist about body mods then that's their issue, not the person choosing to express themselves that way's. The times are changing and the fact of the matter is that more and more companies are realising that to hire young people then they have to be flexible on dress codes that are needlessly strict anyway. And anyway, from purely anecdotal evidence, my uncle is head of a big accounting firm and they're willing to hire anyone who can prove they're good at their job regardless of the way they look and I know my aunty has the same policy within her store, and I'm from an incredibly conservative and traditional family. My flatmate studies medicine and loads of doctors have tattoos (less so piercings due to potential issues with jewellery carrying dirt or bacteria or potentially getting lost and causing problems, but that's more of a health and safety issue than to do with actual piercings themselves). I mean it's a lesser example but one of my bosses has purple hair and tattoos and works in an office. There's no reason to discriminate against those who get perfectly safe body mods any more and more and more people are starting to realise that the way someone looks does not actually impact who they are as a person and I personally think that's great.

The ironic thing is that my mom just got a tattoo yesterday (being that it is now after 12 AM here currently). She got a small tattoo on her foot that said "Everything happens for a reason". My older sister bought it for her, as she had the same tattoo on her ribcage or something and my mom likes that saying too. I sort of like it too but I've never gotten a tattoo and I would be nervous to. There are a few things I would maybe like for a tattoo but I would have to think about them as they're permanent. I don't know if I could commit to one or not. But it would be nice to have a meaningful tattoo you could look at every day.
I have no piercings, not even my ears.

I wanted to get my ears pierced when I was 11, but I was too scared. I’ve decided now I don’t want them... I feel like I'm in a minority because I'm a girl and I don't have my ears pierced but I just don't want them pierced. I would never wear earrings anyways, and it would be annoying to clean them and do whatever you have to do to them if you don't wear earrings anyways.

I decided not to get mine when my dad said he didn’t exactly love earrings. He wouldn’t of stopped me from getting them, but I decided he was right.... I’m not a huge fan of them. I want them sometimes because they make such cute ladybugs and stuff, but... I don’t think I’d really like them in the end. Both of my parents have their ears pierced. My mother actually used to have three piercings in both ears. If you like all that cutesy stuff, you could still find ladybugs in clip-on form. I used to wear those when I was younger. So you could wear the bugs for a day and take them off afterwards with no permanent damage. I actually remember from my childhood having 'Powerpuff Girls' earrings that were stick-on sticker things that you would put on your ears. That's about the closest I've gotten to earrings.

The only piercings I can stand are earrings... I don’t like piercings anywhere else. And I don’t like earrings on guys. But the worse thing of all are the giant hole piercings. Gross and ugly.
Okay, I'm alone on this one.
Eww I hate that (the second picture)...

I decided not to get my ears pierced so that I can stand out because everyone else has them pierced XD I really wanted them when I was 11 and I was just too chicken to do it. My mom took me in Clarie’s and they showed me the gun and I was just like SORRY NO XD It's best that you didn't anyway! I've heard a lot of bad experiences from Claire's. That they don't clean the gun afterwards and that their starter studs are the cheapest of the cheap. I actually got my first piercing on my ears done at Walmart when I was like 12 and still have today and they're fine. Got a second piercing done at Claire's a year later and they got infected and I had to let them close up.

I'm going to disagree with you to an extent here. I think you might be going a bit far with the whole "turning into an addiction" thing, and I'm going to outright disagree on Tattoos. I don't have any, but I do enjoy looking at them. Especially the nicely designed, professionally done ones. I have no interest in the ones done with pen ink at home, but a good tattoo isn't a turn off at all. That's okay, that's your personal preference. But that doesn't make what I said less true. Look at how many people start with one tattoo/piercing and end up with lots of them. And they are often far from meaningful or good looking after a few. Look at Harry Styles: it looks like a kid drew doodles on his body. I don't like most of Harry's tattoos but I've gotten used to them I guess. The butterfly tattoo on his stomach is stupid honestly...
