I'm going to disagree with you to an extent here. I think you might be going a bit far with the whole "turning into an addiction" thing, and I'm going to outright disagree on Tattoos. I don't have any, but I do enjoy looking at them. Especially the nicely designed, professionally done ones. I have no interest in the ones done with pen ink at home, but a good tattoo isn't a turn off at all. That's okay, that's your personal preference. But that doesn't make what I said less true. Look at how many people start with one tattoo/piercing and end up with lots of them. And they are often far from meaningful or good looking after a few. Look at Harry Styles: it looks like a kid drew doodles on his body. A lot of people end up with a lot of them not because they say "I'm only gonna get one." then can't control themselves from getting more. Plenty of people plan to get a lot from the get-go, but it'd be a painful and almost impossible process to get all the tattoos done at once. I wouldn't call that an addiction, I'd just call it a preference. And not all tattoos are meant to look perfect and professional. If something looks like a kid doodle, sometimes it's actually a kid's doodle transferred onto the skin because it's a kid that the person cares about.

I don't mind tattoos or piercings that much as I look inside the person. I mean, I wouldn't enjoy seeing my lover with f*** you tattooed on him somewhere but most people don't get something like that.

Did you hear about that guy who got a pinstripe pattern of F*** You tatted onto his arm, inspired by Conor McGregor's suit?

I think we could all agree that how we view piercings is all according to our cultural growth. In America, there's a lot of people with piercings, but a lot of people from past generations look down on piercings. They feel they are a mutilation to the body. While in past generations and currently in other countries today in parts of Africa and Asia, piercings are not only viewed as beautiful or sexy, but as rites of passage. Ways to rank people. Ways to perform rituals. So none of us should really be taking anybody else's opinion of them that seriously. It's all to do with how we grew up.

My grandfather is very adverse to tattoos and piercings but I really don't care that much. Culture does really affect these sort of things.

Roman Mew™ @whispereddaydreams MyCastleCrumbledOvernight Now now Peaches, we have no room for logic and rational thinking here. Oh, my mistake. I don't know what I was thinking.

I'm not a big fan of piercings and I've never been able to work out why! I love tattoos so it's completely inexplicable because I'm clearly not against body mods but yeah, I just don't like piercings.

Tattoos are more like art and they aren't that much of a hassle to take care of. Maybe that's why.

I feel like we've spoken so much about tats, this might as well be a tattoo thread as well.

Did you hear about that guy who got a pinstripe pattern of F*** You tatted onto his arm, inspired by Conor McGregor's suit? Whyyyyy Why people gotta do that stuff. XD My biggest concern is that people fail to realize that a tattoo is permanent. You’re stuck with it for life. It might be a fun idea or expression at one moment in life, but that feeling for sure won’t last. It’s also important to think about how you want to be perceived in society. You can say that you don’t care what others think, but it won’t be nice te be judged before people even know you or when you get rejected for a job. And being beautiful or cool is not determined by the amount of ink or metal you wear.

A friend of mine who loves tattoos and is really impulsive told me that, even if he dislikes a tattoo he got and can't relate to its expression anymore, he still doesn't regret it because it meant something to him at a time in his life. I'm a bit more wary about getting tats, but I thought that was a nice way of looking at it. I do agree though that getting earrings or ink to feel cool or beautiful is going down a bad path full of poor self-esteem. You have to get it because you like it, not because you dislike yourself.

Most jobs won't care any more even, unless they're face tattoos or offensive or the job heavily relies on you looking a certain way. A lot of teachers and bankers and other 'serious' jobs are held by people with tattoos these days.

I know my cousin has one of his brother who died. Also a family friend has one of her younger brother who also died. Others have motivational sayings and quotes that obviously have provided inspiration. Me personally wouldn’t get a tattoo because I’m a wimp, but I don’t have any issue with people who do. It’s their body, their decision, if they wanna go that route then I take zero issue.
