At the moment it looks promising. At least the number of deaths doesn’t spike as much as infections. But it’s probably too early to tell, since hospitalizations and death rates always take a few weeks to kick in. The UK is probably our first signal. Would be great if this variant is mild. Then we could go for herd immunization. Although mild is a tricky expression. This variant could trigger a lot of lasting symptoms, like long Covid patients have. Fingers crossed there will be an end to this in 2022. For the first time in this pandemic I really have hope that it soon could be over, Omicron is more infectious than other strains, but it seems to be not that bad than the other ones (sure there will be deaths and hospitalizations, but less in percent than with Delta), and it will infect many people, so future waves and strains won't have it that easy to infect people.
But I'm just a couchpotato who combines something in his wobbly head.
What’s a bit suspicious in The Netherlands and Germany is that reported infections are actually going down, despite Omikron getting more common. It might be due to restrictions. But maybe less people are getting tested, also because symptoms aren’t that obvious. The danger about Omikron is: even if it’s half as dangerous, that could easily be annihilated by double the amount of infections. At the moment numbers from South Africa and the UK show that mostly young people get infected. Older people have less interaction and are more careful. Maybe we’ll know more at the beginning of next year. Hopefully letting Omikron spread will be the answer to end this crisis. But it’s too early to take a risk, at least as long as other variants are around.

I get my booster shot this week. I have heard it makes you sick. I hope not. I got really sick after my second vaccination shot and I don't want a repeat.

For some it’s a walk in the park, others get a bit sick. The only thing you can do is make sure you’re healthy and well-rested beforehand.

I Have to Self Isolate for a week Got Corona Bad cough loss of taste how nice Get well soon, mate. Since you already had your booster, I’m sure that you’ll recover faster. Just give yourself plenty of rest, and keep an eye on your oxygen levels.

I have to wait until January 11th now to get my booster. I was supposed to have it today but there was no parking and traffic was a nightmare so I just bailed.

Omicron is really raging across Target stores, I've heard some locations have up to fifty employees out sick or quarantined. Fortunately it's not so bad at my store, we've "only" had four team members test positive in the last month. Pays to live in a well-vaccinated area

Fortunately it's not so bad at my store, we've "only" had four team members test positive in the last month. Pays to live in a well-vaccinated area I'm nervous going into the new year. My province has allowed pharmacies to start giving COVID test which means people who possibly have COVID are going to come in and go do all their shopping before getting tested and spread their germs around. People are already tired of following COVID mandates and even though I don't think my province will pull the trigger on a lockdown, I would be a fool to think it's out of the question. Also corporate has taken away a lot of my stores COVID precautions and they want us to start "going back to normal" but this variant is only getting worse and it's freaking me out and it's a bit of a slap in the face that corporate thinks we're this expendable.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was another lockdown in California, case rates have really spiked over the past couple weeks. Nothing's impossible these days, but I think the government will probably hold on for a couple weeks and see if this is just a holiday surge that will drop off as quickly as it picked up. That's how it went last winter, anyways. I'm surprised there's anybody left to infect at this point, I though most everyone left alive would either be vaccinated or recovered by now. If Omicron doesn't let up that will be the case soon enough.

Loufus I agree with you that we are facing another lockdown. We will just have to wait and see.

We’re back in partial lockdown, my store is insane. Happy New Years, 2022 is already exhausting.
