Everything comes to an end at some point and nothing lasts forever. Some artists change labels frequently, others stay in the same place for years, but nothing stays the same forever. It could have Nope. Seeing as how she was at the end of her contract with BMLG, she was looking for more than what they were offering and what they offered wasn't as good as UMG was so she went where she thought it would be better for her and her career. She wasn't going to settle for the same agreement she had when Fearless was first released.

I can't believe she left Big Machine Records. This is really upsetting.

I guess Big Machine couldn’t offer the things Republic Records UMG could offer her. Taylor probably got a sweet deal out of this. I would’ve liked for her to get her own label, but maybe it’s too soon or not what she wants. In a way I expected her to join a bigger label. What annoys me a bit, is that this is the same label Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Lorde and The Weeknd are with. On the other hand the label also has some good and nice artists: Pearl Jam, 3 Doors Down, Godsmack and Stromae. Really you can say that about any label though. Like when she was with BMLG, she was with Rascal Flatts, Danielle Bradbery, Reba, but on the other hand so was Steven Tyler. So really it's all on taste there and what you like as an individual. Not that it will have any kind of affect on her music or theirs. She may have considered starting her own label but there are alot more factors involved with that than just being a signed artist. There's a much bigger risk, plus the amount of money needed to just get off the ground and get running is way more than she may think is worth it. It's not easy to sign a deal and I would imagine it's harder still to build a new label from the ground up. Yeah, starting her own label is tricky at this moment. Besides a financial risk, I think she lacks the time to do it. Taylor is someone who wants to be involved and in charge. I could see her doing it after her career. Although I think she won’t quit soon. Maybe she will keep writing and singing until the end.

She may end up like Cher for all we know, still recording, writing and touring until she's so old she physically can't do it anymore. She could be like the Stones and tour thru her 70s.

I think it's great. My guess is Big Machine weren't willing to offer her ownership of her masters going forward which is why she's left. She's going to have a lot more creative control from now on and she's done something great for smaller artists too. Fantastic news!

I really don't know if I should be happy or sad. BMR and Taylor was such a wonderful story, and she could do what she wanted there I think. But on the other hand, her last albums weren't that great, maybe it is exactly the same move for her and her music, maybe it is the wrong one, I don't know it. But isn't BMR a part of Universal too? Cause the CDs here have the Universal logo and the BMR logo printed on it. (I don't want to look at my american CDs now ) Does anyone know if Republic Records has any country artists?

Big Machine is it's own label group separate from Universal. I just skimmed thru the artist list at Republic Records (holy crap there's alot of them there) and it looks like the ONLY country act on that label is Maddie & Tae. I don't know what other labels Universal owns (like BMLG consists of like 5 different labels, I imagine Universal is the same).

And they do have multiple labels under the UMG umbrella. And holy crap there are ALOT of labels in this umbrella. www.universalmusic.com/labels/Fun fact I just saw. Katy Perry, Halsey, Luke Bryan, 5SOS are all under this same umbrella.

Okay, then probably Universal just had the international rights on the Big Machine stuff. Okay so hope for country can still be alive. (I need a praying smiley )

I'm happy for Taylor. That post from Scott pulled at my heartstrings a bit but this is how the business works. I fully trust Taylor's decisions because she's one of the smartest people in the biz. She wants to make us proud and I know she'll keep making the music we know and love.

Big Machine Records (where she was in the BMLG) is almost strictly a country label. I don't think Republic Records or Universal Music Group would tell her that she can't record more country songs.

Yeah I thought since a few years that she developed out of Big Machine Records portfolia and doesn't really fit into it anymore. Maybe that was one of the reason for the dispute (if there should have been one) and I still wonder that they hadn't sold her Reputation CDs in the official online store of BMLG the first months.
