really? i thought it was only two years ago... maybe i'm getting it confused with leap year... don't mind me... Two years ago was the summer olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I loved the '2012 Summer Olympics' in London, England. One Direction even performed in the closing ceremony. I forget which year it was but there was one i remember watching that was in bosnia i think... somewhere ... and the "olympic city" is a ghost town now...

A lot of the countries in that area have names that are murder to try to pronounce... but yeah... it was a while ago... But the olympics this year don't seem to be in a place that's much easier to pronounce

It makes no sense why the next three 'Olympic' games (including '2018 Olympics') are all in Asia. Why can't they spread them out across the world more? The '2018 Winter Olympics' will be in Pyeongchang, South Korea; the '2020 Summer Olympics' will be in Tokyo, Japan; and the '2022 Winter Olympics' will be in Beijing, China. Then the '2024 Summer Olympics' will finally be held somewhere other than Asia - in Paris, France.

I think for one of them, there was only one city that actually even came forward wanting to host them...

And of course you can't host Winter Olympics just anywhere: you need snow and mountains.

Sad that the NHL is not taking a break to let the players go to the olympics this year. Hope for some medals for germany in biathlon and ski jumping. I heard about that but I didn't really understand what they were saying. So is this going to heavily affect how countries do in hockey? I hope Canada can still get a high medal (gold medal hopefully) for both the women's and men's teams. Not that much I think, only that countries that have no or only one or two players from the NHL could be better than normal. But I like to see the best players of the world all play for their country, and without the NHL players it isn't the case. I think that the USA will not be as good as they can be against russia and other top teams without any NHL players, I predict a third or fourth place for them and think that russia, sweden and canada will fight for the first 3 positions. I hope that germany will get to the second round and maybe can win against the USA again.

I know that, but I don't understand why the people in the committee who choose the host cities didn't want more variety. Why Asia three times in a row, for winter then summer then winter olympics? I think there's usually at least 2 cities that are serious about it and then one doesn't get chosen.

I'm sorry to admit this for any Americans here but I always boo the U.S. and I usually root for the other country that they're up against. I hope Canada can get a gold medal again, that would be cool. It seems like Canada, the U.S., Sweden, and Russia are the top hockey teams. I don't think there are too many hockey teams anyways (maybe 10 at least?).

In grade 10 or something my 'English' teacher and 'Psychology' teacher showed us news relating to the course about things and he showed us a video on Sochi, Russia and how it was chosen as the 'Olympic' host city for 2014 but didn't have snow actually and had to have snow be made or bring it in to there. It's located in the southwest corner of Russia I think and it's fairly warm there.

I get tired of the American mentality that they're the only people who matter. I know for certain Americans couldn't give one sh*t about the Canadian team. So I dislike the U.S. team because of that.
