Agreed. Take Midnights for example. It was a great opportunity for so many other subjects. I can understand other artists sticking with shallow love songs. Their music is heavily commercialized and some aren’t that bright. But Taylor writes her own songs and is smart. I don’t really understand why she sticks to mostly one subject so firmly. It makes you wonder what is going on in her mind. One of the things that bothered me a lot about Reputation, was that a lot of beef and frustration got dumbed down to “here’s my new boyfriend in your face”. She knows her audience likes that subject. She has to make her music relatable but her life is not like the average person so it must be difficult to have relatable subjects. We all experience love and she's talked about sickness/death. Recently she's discussed her mental issues in anti Hero but got pooped on and caved in so she'll probably stray from that subject in the future. Yeah. I’m glad she opened up a bit. But I’m afraid she will avoid a lot of subjects, or keep it shallow, to stay away from criticism. |
