Anyway I have discovered my very specific niche, which is songs about dead grandmas' ghosts coming to visit their grandkids. I wonder if marjorie was inspired by Only If For A Night by Florence and The Machine at all. If not, it's funny that they wrote two fairly similar songs about the grandmas visiting them in dreams and helping them stay on track with their careers. I didn’t know “Only if For A Night” was about her grandma. It’s one of the best songs on Ceremonials. Yeah! I only know that because I heard her tell the story about it at a concert. It's the same grandma she mentions in The End of Love and if you're at a concert where she performs either of them, she asks you all to raise a toast to her grandma in her memory.

champagne problems and happiness made me feel something that i didn't know i could feel. “She would’ve made such a lovely bride, what a shame she’s f**ked in the head”, “But you’ll find the real thing instead, she’ll patch up your tapestry that I shred”, and then the whole last chorus in champagne problems tear my heart apart. Then the choruses, “Haunted by the look in my eyes that would’ve loved you for a lifetime”, “I hope she’ll be a beautiful fool who takes my spot next to you, no I didn’t mean that, sorry I can’t see facts through all of my fury”, and “No one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you and you know you hurt him too” in happiness light the shreds on fire.

Evermore is the best thing she's put out in ages.

I thought I wouldn't like this album since I pretty much hated Folklore but this one is really good! My favorite is Tis The Damn Season.

okay, so i have a lot of thoughts that i wanted to share.
1. willow
what an opener, i'm glad she made the single the opener this time, so we don't have to fight as hard for it to go number one, like we had to do for cardigan. the only downfall is that it's a little repetitive for my liking, but it's still amazing.
2. champagne problems
THESE LYRICS. this is my favorite song off of both folklore and evermore combined. i really think this is one of her best songs ever. the melody is just FLAWLESS. i really wonder though, i'm not quite sure, but i think it's about a girl rejecting someone's proposal because she wasn't ready for marriage? and if so RELATABLE.
3. gold rush
this one didn't stand out to me much, but the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. has anyone else noticed that the begging sounds like the strings before the bridge in this is me trying? haha that's what i noticed.
4. 'tis the damn season
MASTERPIECE. the melody with this one also is immaculate. the whole story (which i think is connected to dorothea, but i'm not sure) is so captivating, and i feel like i'm living it, even though i'm not.
5. tolerate it
this is heartbreaking. the fact that you're with someone who doesn't celebrate every little success that you have, and you can't do anything about it. that's so sad, and i've been there, and it feels like the most lonely thing in the entire world.
6. no body, no crime
i am a huge fan of this one as well. the minor. the story. truly a masterpiece.
7. happiness
i cannot get over this song. i've listened to it probably 20 times already, and i see something new that i love about it every listen. how dare taylor call a song happiness and proceed to give us the saddest song she has ever released.
8. dorothea
this one is too cute. i love how she carried on another character from the same high school as betty and james, i thought that was so creative. also, the second verse... wow i was speechless.
9. coney issland
this one isn't my favorite, but i love this feature. it was essential to this song, and his voice is PERFECT for this song. i wonder what song this one connects to on the album, i'm still working that out in my head.
10. ivy
this one feels like a carry on from illicit affairs, which was also track 10 on folklore, but this one is happier and i honestly don't know which i love more, but i love them both.
11. cowboy like me
this one didn't really stick out for me, but i don't hate it. i just don't really understand it haha.
12. long story short
this one is so cute omg. i think this one is about taylor, and how she finally is all about someone who's actually worth her time, after she spent SOOO long with the wrong people.
13. majorie
this lyric video made me bawl like a baby. and i know everyone has that person that they can relate this song to, and wow, it's like soon you'll get better, i can't listen to it without tears.
14. closure
this one didn't really do it for me either. i love the lyrics, but i'm not a big fan of the background beat that's in it, i'm not sure i'll ever get around to liking this one.
15. evermore
this song is absolutely magical until bon iver comes in (whoops). i thought this was a terrible feature, and i skip the rest of the song once he comes on it. i loved his voice in exile, but this just wasn't for me. taylor sounds great though.

My fave is easily marjorie. The 'what died didn't stay dead' line is just so true, and there's something about accepting your grief that almost feels sadder than the rawness of grief itself. This song is honestly one of my favourites that she's ever put out.
