I'm not done yet, but I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't like it XD it all sounds the same... I think it will grow on me though. So far the only one I've truly liked is the 1, which I loved.
so everyone who ordered merch, did you get The Lakes already or are you waiting?

dang, I'm not going to hear The Lakes until November I guess...
I didn't like it much, everything sounded the same. I was so excited when it started, I really love the 1. cardigan is pretty good, but after that eh... I hope it will grow on me. It doesn't really seem like an album, just like an interesting side project.

This thread has been moved to the brand new folklore discussion board! I also edited the title of the reputation board so that it matches the style that it appears on the album/on iTunes.

Just completed my first full listen-through of the album. The sound of the songs is very similar. I can imagine people have a hard time distinguishing songs. Overall I like the sound: very mellow, genuine instruments, pleasant vocals, no weird stuff.
Next up: figuring out what the songs are about, lol.

Truth be told. Folklore does have that "I'm locked down; not going anywhere for a while; let's make some music" vibe.

I think it's a good album, it's just not the kind of music I would normally listen to. Right now I like the 1, cardigan, august, and betty I think.

Listening to it again and I think I can say I love it. I agree with those of you that say the songs sound similar to each other but that's fine with me because they're all that soft dreamy sound that I love. This sound really suits Taylor. Her voice is like velvet or liquid gold at times. Not sure what my favorite is just yet! That's going to take a few more listens to determine.

I'm not done yet, but I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't like it XD it all sounds the same... I think it will grow on me though. So far the only one I've truly liked is the 1, which I loved. so everyone who ordered merch, did you get The Lakes already or are you waiting? I'm exactly the same too. I hadn't made a post yet in this thread but I just am not overly impressed by it yet. I guess you have to keep listening to the songs over and over to get to understand how they are different. But when I first heard all of these songs last night I just couldn't help but think how they all sound the same and there isn't even one that's upbeat or different or a bit pop-ish. This isn't country...If it was country I think I would like it better. I can say for now though that for me 'Lover' is by far better than 'Folklore'. I guess different albums appeal to different people. I'm not someone who would like "indie" kind of music at all. There are a few songs I like more than others and I'll have to figure those out or post them later. I've had 'Cardigan' stuck in my head I think today. The music video is beautiful and there are beautiful visuals in it. Sorry SydneyPaige , once you got to about a quarter of the way through the album on your livestream I started feeling tired and kept closing my eyes on and off and I remember waking up on and off hearing parts of songs and they sounded the same. Maybe that's part of why I find it the same because I was sleeping in between songs too. My stupid laptop must have died also near the end or once I fell asleep, so I didn't see the end of your stream, I'm sorry. I would have liked to have seen it but I felt quite tired.

I think it's a good album, it's just not the kind of music I would normally listen to. Right now I like the 1, cardigan, august, and betty I think. The multiple "f*ck"s in this album......Geesh...... Don't know how much I like her in particular using that word. Is she trying to be more edgy than she is? I guess I'm just not used to her swearing that much. She went from damn to hell to sh*t to b*tches to f*ck.

I don't know if someone has posted about this yet but I sort of read a few of Taylor's posts or explanations about this album, and it seems like the theme or idea of this album is her writing songs from different people's points of view. So I guess they may not be about her life. Is this what "Folklore" means? Stories of people or something?

I now listened to three songs of Folklore, somehow I like it, because it's not a new overproduced loud pop album for the radio stations, but somehow I think it's like me, which means very depressive. I don't like too much of depressive music and if it's the entire album with just depressive songs, I think I wont listen to the whole album in one session.

She went from damn to hell to sh*t to b*tches to f*ck. Yeah. After 1989 she went on this path of desperately trying to prove she’s grown up and not the innocent girl. Ironically that is teenage behavior and not mature at all. I guess she needs to catch up on the times she missed.
