In all seriousness, like I've posted before, does anyone know why signed simple vinyl records are sold for so much? Even when the '1989' vinyl was signed and sold during '13 Days of Taylor' a few years ago it wasn't worth the $100+. Now looking back at that price, it'd sure have been a hell of a lot nicer if these latest signed vinyl records were sold for $100+... I discussed it earlier with Daniel. When international fans like ourselves have to take into account the obscene exchange rate, it's almost an unjustifiable amount of money. But $250 alone, in my opinion, is an understandable price tag.
Taking into perspective this:
- Taylor is probably the most famous/successful female musician alive
- She doesn't autograph a lot these days
- Each autographed vinyl was limited to 250 copies
- The vinyls themselves are special editions
This actually caused a lot of debate on Tumblr, and the anger was shared by a lot who recognised that they are expensive. But the thing is, nobody has to buy them. The reason they were that price is because they have value. At the end of the day, the store is a business, and clearly there are enough customers to buy expensive merch or otherwise they wouldn't have sold out as quickly as they did. They are a collector's item, clearly from the amount of upset, everyone wanted one. It wouldn't make sense for the store to reduce the price just because every single fan wanted one. It's much the same with concert tickets. Higher the demand = higher the price. One Tumblr user also pointed out that it makes more (business) sense for the store to sell full price limited items and have them sell out, rather than produce too many and have to reduce the price later on.
I've also seen some people try to tag Taylor and discuss this but she really hasn't got a lot to do with ticket or merch prices. All that is part of her business which is managed by people in that specialty (I also think it's kind of entitled to demand Taylor take action on anything fans don't agree with).
I understand 100% completely and fully a lot of fans not being able to afford this stuff. I am kind of regretting even purchasing them (my order is still on freaking 'pending'), but, with all of the above considered, I don't think it was an outrageous price. As I also mentioned before, the Peter Max signed/framed posters were, in my opinion, an outrageous price.
Thank you for clarifying (although I saw your previous post), but it doesn't answer my question why autographs on vinyl records are that much. She sold the '1989' vinyl which was overpriced as it was in my opinion at $100+ and she sold the '1989' framed lithograph around the same time I think or during the same year and I don't remember how much it was but it might've been like $150 or something. THAT is justifiable as it's nicely framed, but one flimsy cardboard case for a vinyl record is worth $250?? Not even framed?? I don't buy that at all. It's not framed, so it's outrageous its priced for that much. I don't agree with it staying in stock for a long time and them having to sell it. The framed '1989 Tour' lithograph sold out quickly I believe and it wasn't limited edition and they never said how many they had. It came back a second time I think too. Anything signed by her (that was a reasonable price) would NEVER sit in the store and have to be sold for cheaper. Now I would sort of understand if there was a framed autographed picture that was personalized that was worth $250 because it would take a lot of coordination for Taylor to sign certain names and have them all sent to the right people. And the 'Peter Max' posters were $500 I believe only when they were framed too (the complete package). That was a freaking fancy frame if I recall lol. It was like gold and sculptured almost.

How to give me anxiety: Taylor Nation saying they have "a few more things up their sleeve." I was just going to post that earlier today around lunch time here but I saw you already posted that. I knew they couldn't have another whole two weeks of sales for a '13 Days of Taylor'. I just wonder why they decided to do a 'Black Friday' week this year instead, maybe because it's 5 days less than '13 Days of Taylor' would last. I wonder what they mean about that, it's exciting. I hope I have some money if they do have an autograph that's reasonably priced for once, or if its a Christmas present from my parents that I will know about. But maybe they won't since they already sold something(s) autographed...

I mean, I'm not sure how they come to that exact figure ($250), but I suppose autographs alone are valuable because they can't be mass produced. Taking into account the general population and not just the 'fandom', I think people have more of an affinity for vinyl records over, say, lithos, because they symbolise the work of the artist (the main reason people love Taylor). And I'd say signed CDs wouldn't be worth as much because they don't have the same aesthetic value as vinyls.
All things aside, I still can't work out, of all things, why the hell they didn't sell a signed rep?? WTF?? I wonder if that's one of the things 'up their sleeves'... And I would be very interested to see what they would charge if she made another lot of signed/framed lithos. I would need an exceptionally good reason to pay any more than $200 for one.

And why of all vinyl records the first three 'Record Store Day' ones. 'Speak Now' and 'RED' were just re-released for 'Black Friday' 'Record Store Day'. Why not those two? And it annoys me how they had all three. Sure it's cool for there to be all three if you can freaking afford them all, but I think it would've been a better choice to just sell a signed 'Reputation' vinyl record. And maybe just maybe I could get one...

I might've been able to afford a $150 one with even the pathetic Canadian dollar exchange rate. But certainly not $250 without the exchange rate. I think I've learned that the Australian dollar or whatever its called is even worse than the Canadian dollar? I looked on 'Google' and right now it says for $100 USD it would be $132.87 CAD and $136.68 AUD. ://

About 8 years ago, it was bang on, dollar for dollar. Since then it's never been particularly strong. I'm surprised about the Canadian dollar though, but it's been bad for some time as well? On a positive note, I was able to purchase the Black Friday vinyls from a Canadian seller without much difference

You wait and wait for it to get better and it never does. I looked on a website that was supposed to tell you what the dollar was on days in the past and I checked for the beginning of April 2014 and apparently it was good and just over 1.00 for Canada so it was good for us and bad for them, which was the time we were in Las Vegas and I didn't know the dollar was that good back then, but since then and even later that year it must've went to sh*t. I remember ordering one or two orders from Taylor's online store before '1989' came out and I remember the dollar wasn't good then in late 2014. It's been like that since then.

IT SAYS MY ORDER IS PROCESSING AND THE VINYLS ARE BEING PICKED. DOES THIS MEAN THAT HAVING THEM SITTING IN MY CART HALF AN HOUR AFTER SELL OUT AND USING MY OWN BILLING ADDRESS ACTUALLY WORKED LMAOOOOOOO

Wish I could buy one of the 'Taylor Swift: Self Titled' signed vinyl records that came back in stock for some reason on the online store.
