I watched the video too! I agree that music is getting worse and worse, what with less originality, I think singers are now just trying to reach the top of the charts instead of being the most creative... For example, Taylor's lyrics have gotten more and more basic with her latest albums I think. Comparing lyrics from, I guess, Love Story, to lyrics from Look What You Made Me Do, since they were both very popular... Taylor didn't use to repeat lyrics, but now that's what most of her songs do. And I know part of the reason is because she switched genres, but still, Love Story was a popular song. I think in general music is sliding down... I know what music I like, and I rarely like popular ones. So I guess I don't get brainwashed? I don't agree with the brainwashing part, but I don't know... Overall I agree that music is going downhill, but then again, I think good music will come back, like a circle, in the way it does with fashion. I don't know what I'm saying. XD

He does say that there are a number of very talented performers and groups around today but unfortunately most will never be heard because record companies don't want to take the risk of investing in them. That’s with every generation though, there’s always going to be unknown artists who never made it... there’s a lot of talented artists now, some are underrated, some are overrated and some are where they should be. I honestly like Katy Perry better than whoever he compared her to. I didn’t like any of the people he listed, but that’s just because it isn’t my style. I like music now, in general, not what’s on the charts as of late, but I like it and I see no reason to change it. I know it will change though, it’s always changing.

I watched the video too! I agree that music is getting worse and worse. A lot of songs sound the same. I don’t like any of the people he listed because it is not my style. I think singers are trying to get to the top of the charts and making money instead of being creative. Lots of todays music is a racket. There is still lot of talented singers out there but they are not well known.

I didn't watch the video but reading everyone's responses I have an idea.
I do agree that music isn't as good as it use to be. I only a few singers who are still trying to keep there music creative.

In some weird way, this video and conversation made me really listen to my music. I was listening to 5SOS’s latest album, Youngblood, before I fell asleep last night and I started to hear little things in the background I hadn’t noticed before. So maybe this video wasn’t so bad after all.

It made me feel kinda guilty about the music I listen to... It's okay to like terrible songs and artists as long as you don't confuse them with quality music.

But if I don’t like “quality music” then it’s not quality music in my opinion That's not what I'm saying. You don't have to like quality music. What I'm saying is: don't rate mediocre or bad music at the same level or higher than quality music simply because you like it.
For example: even if you would like Camila Cabello's music better than Taylor's music, you can't say that Camila is a better artist or makes better music than Taylor.

I think I could say that... but luckily I don’t like Camila better than Taylor

It's determined by an objective analysis of the music. And yes, in a way music always has a subjective component, but it's not impossible to rate music objectively.

Peoples opinions of music are different and people should respect that. Some people might think Camilla Cabello writes better than Taylor or the other way around, it’s an opinion, not a fact.

Curse this video! I keep thinking about it. So as I was listening to the radio earlier, Youngblood (the song) was playing and my sister said it sounded like a weird remix and it did sound kind of off to me but I thought about the "loudness" thing they mentioned where they alter a song's dynamic range. This made me realize that even Delicate sounds different to me on the radio than on the CD. I don't know if this is because of that "loudness" thing or if songs just sound different through a car's radio.
