I guess I had it coming then because over the last while my right ear has had almost brownish or dark yellow stuff on the q-tips I’d put into there. My nose or sinuses are always stuffed, it’s the story of my life. I wake up and my nose is stuffed because it’s chronic. I use some kind of nasal spray daily. I don’t know if it has sea salt in it or not. I don’t recommend using nasal spray too often, especially not spray with hydrochlorid. Sea salt spray is much easier on the nose. Your nose will get used to too much nasal spray and the membranes will actually swell and prevent airflow when you don’t even have a cold. It’s common that people start using it daily. My mom is a nasal spray “addict”. I can imagine it’s harder to prevent a cold with the terrible Canadian weather. Do you breathe through your mouth a lot? It’s important to be able to breathe through your nose. It might take some effort to breathe through your nose again. But it will help you get your nose open regularly and it will help you sleep better. I got these sinus problems from my mom. We both use nasal spray daily. I can’t breathe through my nose unless I use the spray to try to clear my nose. So I have to use it daily.

More fun realizations tonight. I know thanksgiving isn’t until November but the county where my parents live has been a covid hotspot since the beginning of the pandemic and recently it’s been getting worse and likely won’t get better enough for traveling without quarantining after. So not only will I not get to see my grandmother this year or any of my extended family, the chances of seeing my parents and sisters is also incredibly slim. Going to see them would mean quarantining for at least a week after and I’ll only have a couple of days off. I’ve never missed a thanksgiving with my family.

Oh my god I feel so betrayed by my school district. Tonight I got an email that they are considering moving to a fully in person schedule from a hybrid model and the school board was talking about it tonight. Meanwhile the first time the teachers found out about it was tonight. Through a freaking email. The plan is to put a survey out to parents but what parent is going to say no? Remote learning two days a week sucks. It’s been an hour since i saw the email and I can’t believe it. I still don’t know what to say. I’ve heard so many crazy stories from teachers all over the country about their administrators being the worst and not feeling safe. And now it’s my turn to have a crazy story. I really can’t believe it. By the way we’ve been in school for less than two weeks. Less than two weeks and we’re considering moving to fully in person.

It must be terrifying for you. I hope that the parents at your school decide to keep things the way they are. I'm thinking of you.

I more so want to know how and why this decision was made and what information do they have to support the decision. And we’ve received absolutely nothing so I’m just frustrated. My state has been doing better for a while but I have no idea if the number of cases has gone down or what. Right now it just seems like the cases has stayed the same. But what I can tell you is there is no way to put fifteen kids in my classroom and have them stay three to six feet away from each other inside. If it turns out that it makes sense, then sure I’ll be all for it. But right now I can’t figure out how all the pieces fit together and I hate it.

My flatmate has decided to throw a party tonight, after I've worked 12 hours and we're also not allowed people inside our houses. I can't even go to my boyfriend's house (which is allowed-those in relationships but not co-habiting are allowed to form 'extended households') because he's out at the pub with his little sister tonight. I need a load of sleep and I won't get it and I'm annoyed.

Students have effectively been banned from leaving their houses in Scotland. Not even kidding. We're allowed to go to supermarkets and that's about it. We're being blamed for spreading the virus when for the vast majority of us it is not our fault that the virus has been affecting students. I'm so fed up. I'm so lonely. I'm so tired of this.

I understand your frustration and I know you personally have been doing everything to not get infected and spread the virus. But it is true that students have been playing a major role in the recent comeback of the virus. We have the same problem over here. When schools started after the summer, restrictions weren’t heavy enough. Freshers events took place and people partied with few limitations. It lead to a wide range of infecting others. Same goes for high school. Numerous kids spread it to classmates and teachers. Obviously that lead to people infecting family and friends, who took it to work and other places. It’s getting pretty scary again. Cases are rising daily and hospitalizations and deaths are starting to climb. In my opinion only a strict lockdown can save us from going back to square one. It’s rough, but too many people can’t be trusted to do the right thing with the current rules.

I would think it was fair if a) students had been back long enough to have caught and spread it here and b) there was proof that students were going to pubs and restaurants and spreading it more than any other group. As it stands now, most students have only been back for a week at most which is typically agreed as being too short a time frame to have caught the disease and be showing symptoms, meaning those who are in quarantine must have caught it before returning. I don't think students have been going to pubs more than any other group, and this ruling if anything is far more likely to cause students to behave in illegal ways and throw house parties or visit each other indoors since we can't see anyone but our flatmates now legally. I understand there's a second peak coming, but I feel like students are being unfairly scapegoated here. Students and young people are only more likely to spread the disease because they're forced to live in cramped, shared conditions and work in jobs such as hospitality or retail where you interact with a lot of people. I don't think we're behaving any more riskily than other groups, just that we're forced to live and work in circumstances than mean we're more likely to spread it.

I don't think we're behaving any more riskily than other groups, just that we're forced to live and work in circumstances than mean we're more likely to spread it. I’m definitely not in favor of scapegoating a single group. But the percentage of younger people not taking this seriously is higher than with other age groups. In fairness the governments sent a bad signal by opening up and allowing too much in June and July. Gathering with friends and family and going on vacation was a terrible idea. Especially when traveling (abroad). Young people got together in larger groups like nothing was going on and continued that behavior when school started. I agree that it’s tricky to lock them up. Because they most likely will get together secretly indoors again. I think restrictions combined with small group activities would be best. This also might be the time for people to build some willpower again. It’s embarrassing how weak and spoiled we have gotten. This week a few brainless Dutch celebrities started the hashtag “I won’t participate anymore”. It made me think about my grandparents. They had to survive for 5 years in terrible circumstances during WWII. And we can’t even do a lousy lockdown in all our luxury for a few months or possibly a year?

Infections are on the rise over here. Yesterday the government announced stricter rules. Bars and restaurants need to close at 10 pm. You can only gather with 3 other people at home. Working at home is advised. No spectators at sporting events. Only essential travel.
The rules will be evaluated in about 3 weeks. If infections haven’t gone down by then, there will probably be another lockdown. I think they should’ve proceeded with a lockdown immediately. The measures won’t be good enough. And losing 3 weeks in pushing the virus back will extend a lockdown quite significantly.

The government today made stricter rules, but it's basically the same as before, I don't think that will be enough.

So relatively that would be 15000 infections. At first hospitalizations and IC patients weren’t that much. But last two weeks they have trippled. Today I had a hard time dealing with all this. If we keep our social life really low key, we can almost live a normal life. But nooooo, so many idiots had to go on vacation, party and refuse to distance. Not to mention all the protesters getting out there for no reason. A vaccine will not be here before next spring or summer. And even then it will take time to get rid of the virus. So basically chances are high we will be going in and out of lockdowns until at least spring 2022.
