(THIS BETTER BE POPULAR OR SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU) ((entirely joking there just in case)) Cold syrup >>>>> Room temperature syrup What do you use the cold syrup for? The cute little heart shaped waffles my Grannie made earlier. I'd put it on pancakes, too, but I prefer waffles.

We have different kinds of syrup. Obviously we have one for pancakes.

Most countries outside North America don't really use syrup so you're safe from all of us We (The Netherlands) do! We have different kinds of syrup. Obviously we have one for pancakes. We have maple syrup (which I assume was the syrup in question), but it's a new thing pretty much and it's only used in vegan recipes in place of honey or in American recipes. When people put it on pancakes over here a lot of people act outraged, because everyone knows the only topping you should put on pancakes is lemon and sugar.

That’s insane. We put sugar or syrup on pancakes, occasionally jam. Or we make pancakes with stuff in them (like apple).

That’s insane. We put sugar or syrup on pancakes, occasionally jam. Or we make pancakes with stuff in them (like apple). Jam would also be acceptable, as would fruit with another kind of spread (Nutella or peanut butter are popular ones). But yeah, the best topping is lemon and sugar. You put about a teaspoon of sugar on a pancake (our pancakes are more like what most would call a crepe) and squeeze a lemon over it. I think it started with Henry VI when lemon was seen as being medicinal. We don't really eat American style thicker pancakes here that often, but most people would put either Nutella or like fancy toppings on them. EDIT: EXCEPT for Scotch pancakes actually, which are basically just American pancakes. They're usually eaten cold with butter and maybe jam though.

But still, lemon for pancakes is weird. We have both kinds of pancakes. Crepes are the ones we put sugar, jam and syrup on. The thicker ones (sometimes as large as a plate) are with all kinds of stuff in it. Apple is common, but also bacon. We also use syrup for them. Fun fact is that we love Nutella. But we put it on bread, not on pancakes.

Lemon isn't really that weird when you consider that our pancakes are made with the same batter you'd use for a Yorkshire pud, so we basically eat pancakes as part of our roast dinners with gravy and mashed potatoes and stuff
