So I don't know about you guys but I can say personally, about 75% of the shows I watch are animated and I have to believe that there are other people on here who like animated television shows as well. So here's a thread everyone can use to talk about animated TV shows whether you like Western Animation or Anime, talk about it here.

One of my all-time favorites was a cartoon version of Flash Gordon that Filmation did back in 1979. I have tried to get it on dvd but it's been discontinued, sadly... but considering the company, the animation was extremely well-done, and the stories were interesting. I Don't imagine anyone here is familiar with it.

However there's a good chance I've heard of it. My uncle is a big fan of comics (to the point he is a manager at a comic book shop) and has probably seen it.

fun fact of the day: I'm a distant relative of Walter Lantz who is well known for a little cartoon, you may have heard of it, called Woody Woodpecker....

They made a live action motion picture Flash Gordon years ago... the most successful part of that, though, i think was the soundtrack... Queen did the theme song... But the animated one was so much better... A history of animation class sounds like it would have been interesting... even to someone like me who isn't very good with history.

I don't know....he was an actual woodpecker so it wasn't a euphemism. Also Woody, though not as common of a name is one that's still popular enough in North America. Also Woody Woodpecker is not the only animated character named Woody. There's also the one from Toy Story...it's hard to say.

There's also the one from Toy Story...it's hard to say. I remember the toy story character... but the surname isn't mentioned, if i remember right... and i know a woodpecker is a kind of bird... It's just that there are slang terms that have much different meanings these days... And i honestly have never met anyone in life with even the nickname woody... so i don't know how common a name it is here anymore. But going back to some of the other classic cartoons, there are probably a lot of them that wouldn't get put out these days. Just look at the fuss caused in some places because winnie the pooh and donald duck don't wear pants... they've actually been banned in some countries because of it. I've never been much of a fan of tom and jerry cartoons, myself, because of the fact that the cat always gets hurt... and i love cats... but then someone could say the road runner cartoons were the same type of thing, and i thought those rather funny... Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Speedy Gonzalez... they'd all probably be deemed too stereotypical now in how they portrayed some characters. Bugs Bunny was great though... i like him a lot more than i like Mickey Mouse, honestly.

Yeah, a lot of the humour in old style cartoons would be deemed violent and disturbing which is really too bad because it'll stop people from letting their kids get to know animation as their parents knew it. I know that they do have a new bugs bunny series called Wabbit that I can't say I've watched it. I'm worried about it ruining the characters. Bugs Bunny had such a big personality, I hop today's censors wouldn't affect it.

Bugs Bunny had such a big personality, I hop today's censors wouldn't affect it. A lot of the references in Bugs Bunny are lost on kids today because the animation and the voices were sometimes caricaturing figures that were well-known back when the cartoons were being made... I remember one character voiced like Jimmy Stewart... another reference to Veronica Lake... a lot of little things that slip right by kids today because that stuff is unfamiliar to them. How many kids today even know what vaudeville was? or phonograph records... there are so many things. Some of the cartoons WERE violent, there's no doubt about that, but no more so than what you see on shows today... and it's a lot more graphic, unfortunately, today. There isn't much chance of surviving being blown up by a pack of dynamite like Wile E Coyote was constantly... but it was still kinda funny to see what crazy plan he'd come up with to try to get the road runner THIS time. My favorite Bugs Bunny thing was either the Hallowe'en special they had or his encounters with Marvin the Martian... though i never did understand why that character was dressed like an old Roman centurion. And i forgot to say, that that typo was rather ironic, since we're talking about bugs BUNNY...
