i've seen that before, and it still makes no sense to me that they let the public get that close to something that could be potentially dangerous.

When I lived near Chicago I used to enjoy watching all of the commercial jet-liners fly over our house as they were approaching O'hare Airport for a landing. In the summer we would put folding chairs in our yard and just sit and view the jet airplanes. if i remember right, o'hare is considered the busiest airport in the country, because most connecting flights to anywhere have stopovers there... it surprised me, because i would have thought LAX would have more traffic than chicago but apparently, it doesn't. It's Atlanta I think (for the whole world maybe). I really don't know why though as I would think anywhere else would be busier than that.

I get excited when I hear jet airplane sounds. You can usually hear the sound of one overhead at my house. We live just outside the city so it's fairly quiet but our (gravel) road in front of our house is sometimes busy. I guess airplanes fly everywhere but we seem to get a lot of airlines over where I live (the general area). I've tracked lots of overseas flights like from London to Las Vegas for example that went right over where I live. see i don't like things so lound that they shake my house... and i imagine the huge jets would do that with no problem. They're 20,000- 30,000 feet in the air. They never shake my house. I can hear the sound of them sort of if you're outside.

It's a tiny airport but I think some days an airplane either comes in and/or takes off two or three times a day. But they're always this size (like in the picture below) and never bigger. It's on the other side of the city from where I live though so I never see these airplanes up close usually. I've seen one come in to land a few times though when I was at the airport and I rode on an airplane like this when my parents and I were going to British Columbia two summers ago.

i don't know if it's the particular angle of the picture or what, but it looks like the wings are set back extremely far on the fuselage of the plane... almost to the tail...

No, the wings are sort of near the middle of the length of the plane. Going to Calgary from where I live on the exact model of airplane (I think) I sat on the left side just behind the propeller which was annoying sort of as the propeller was in most of the way for pictures.
