Forgive me if this belongs in the blog/journal section, but I just saw a video of a young boy who was essentially pleading with bullies to stop bullying him and others.
Heartbreaking to say the least you see an innocent kid enduring that.
I’ve been there. A lot of us have been. I don’t really see an end in sight and that’s really unfortunate.
Over the years I’ve seen a lot of people say the onus is on the kid to stand up for himself and maybe there is some validity to that, but honestly where are the teachers? Where are the parents? Principals? The adults involved.
I remember being frustrated when I was in school and was a bullying victim that nobody did anything. Teachers, principles, and the parents of these bullies were just bystanders and watched it happen.
Kids should be taught at a young age that bullying isn’t okay. It’s one reason I loved the message behind that 13 Reasons Why show. It was controversial, but I think the main purpose of it was to open people’s eyes.
Bullying can and does have deadly consequences. How many innocent kids have to die before something is done about it? I don’t have all the answers, but it’s just so frustrating how it doesn’t seem to be getting better.
I believe we as people should be kind and courteous to others. I believe we should try and lend a helping hand. I believe instead of putting each other down we should be trying to lift people up and their spirits because as the old saying goes never know what other things are going on in someone’s life.
Just last week I read a story about a young girl (she was only 13) who committed suicide after prolonged torment and bullying. Kids especially at that age can only take so much of someone calling them ugly, or saying they aren’t good enough. Just sickens me because I fully believe everyone has a purpose in life and everyone can do great things with their life yet instead of realizing that so many people are being brought down by others.
I’m at a point now where I don’t let negative words made by others affect me, but I’m 23 years old. I wouldn’t have that same ability to do that at 13 or 14. As you get older you are able to withstand and endure better than you did when you were a child, but when you’re a kid life comes at you so fast and it’s so difficult to be able to have all these terrible and mean things said to you and not get torn apart by those negative words.
I have this motto for myself and I try my best to try and help other people out as much as I can. One thing I refuse to do is judge people when I don’t know what they’re going through. I just think it’s pointless and also wrong to do that. The last thing I ever wanna do is make someone’s life more difficult.
Just feel like as a society and as people we have to be better. It shouldn’t be acceptable or excusable for people to go around taunting others and make their lives a living hell. Kids shouldn’t have to dread going to school and live in constant fear of what could be done or said to them.
I don’t have kids, but if I did I’d teach them the same thing my parents instilled at me at a young age. Also one of Taylor’s most famous and best quotes “being kind to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind”. That is so true. Nobody will remember or want to remember someone who didn’t impact other people or who just sat around on their high horse judging others at every opportunity. The people that are remembered are the ones that do everything in their power to make the world a better place and try to leave a lasting imprint and impact on other people.
Life is just too short man. It kills me that so many young kids lives are over before they even begin because of bullying because they’re bullied to a point where they make the decision that isn’t worth living their life anymore. All because other people think it’s okay to resort to that kind of pathetic and down right cruel behavior. To me the goal when you’re young especially is to make as many friends as possible. I mean why try and intentionally make someone else’s life miserable? I don’t and never will understand it.
I’m just frustrated and angry about all this. I wish I could talk to some of these people and especially kids who think it’s okay or cool to be a bully. I’d tell them “it’s not, think about the impact words negative or positive can have on someone”. Instead of saying you’re “fat or ugly or worthless” tell a person they’re “unique, beautiful, have great potential to be great in this life”. Just speaking from my perspective it always felt good when I could say or do something to help someone and help them feel good about themselves. Can’t imagine wanting to purposely make them feel bad about themselves.
If anyone has ever told you that you aren’t good enough they’re wrong. Everyone is good enough. Everyone has the capability, the talent, the potential, etc. to be more than good enough. To be great really. Don’t let negativity and mean spirited people tell you that you can’t be anything you wanna be. I wish like hell I could stop all and any forms of bullying, but I can’t. Only thing I can try to do and hopefully we all try is just let those affected know that those negative words said about them aren’t true in any shape, way, or form and that they can rise above, be the better and bigger person, live their lives, attack life head on, and be the absolute best person they can be.
