Yeah I’m excited for it! I may actually have to line up at 4 AM this year! I plan on being at my store at 3 am at the latest for that Warren Zevon... The prices this year are the worst part My local record store is in a relatively small-ish mid-sized town so I don't typically have to show up too early but last year I showed up at a quarter to 7 just to really be safe and the line was already starting to corner the building. So this year I'm going to show up stupid early just to be safe. The town I live in is wedged between a mid sized town and the 5th biggest city in my province and the really big record store in the city shut down last year. Of course there are still more in the city but the one I frequent may see more traffic this year because of that. If I show up too early, I can grab a coffee and sit in my car until someone else shows up or worst case scenario, I show up and there's a line I'll brave it. This record store isn't exactly in the best area of town but it's not the worst area either. It's between my old high school and the strip club so I don't necessarily want to be standing outside alone when the sun hasn't come up yet. It's interesting looking at the history of RSD because it was started to help small record shops keep the doors open because vinyl was dying. Now vinyl is arguably the most popular form of physical music and more popular than ever, but inflation probably holds the biggest threat. I guess worst case scenario, if you spend too much you can always sell the vinyl you buy on impulse at some sort of ridiculously high margin that's 100x more than you paid for it (please note: I'm being sarcastic here, don't actually do that lol).

I am no scalper.... What I am saying here is inflation is hitting BAD with this. I get it's a luxury purchase and to even be able to go is a blessing... HOWEVER.... There is a 4 LP Van Hagar Era vinyl coming that is $100.... Red TV was half of that for a 45 RPM quality pressing. This I fear will be in paper sleeves and rushed... I do like that the selection has been greatly trimmed down to cut some of the bloat, but stuff is getting expensive especially when I am headed to Disney in December. I worry about the prices for the indies too who pay a lot to have stock just sit for a while if no one wants to come out.

The original purpose was to help record stores stay in business and help raise awareness about vinyl but now artists and record labels kind of just look at it as an excuse too sell exclusive pressings of their vinyls and make money off of these small stores. I think the most expensive vinyl I got on RSD last year was Kacey Musgraves' star-crossed picture disc. It was $53 and just a a single disc vinyl. Compare that to the Joni Mitchell Blue Outtakes album I got that is an extremely nice pressing and has demos and a live performances of the Blue album which is arguably one of the best break-up albums of all times which inspired hundreds after it, and it was only $35. Shoot, my 7" "the lakes" vinyl was $26. I got my mom Aerosmith's RSD a few weeks later that had a full live performance for $20. I don't know how the prices works but some prices on RSD make me raise an eyebrow, some make me raise two.

This is the KICKOFF to the Sammy Hagar era, and I feel like it's a stumble. Rhino is doing the re-issue. Their Woodstock Boxset was nice, but if it was say Craft doing it I would be more willing to pay for it.
