Ready For It: 6.5/10
Good song to build anticipation but, definitely not the highlight of the album
End Game: 4/10
Mandatory collab song, could have been sooo much better. Sort of lazy. Skip.
I Did Something Bad: 10/10
This was the first song I fell in love with on this album. It's finally Taylor getting angry about all the BS she was put through and it really shows her true anger. Also it includes one of the most iconic lyrics of hers I've ever heard.
Don't Blame Me: 7.5/10
This song is a bit too slow in it's production at times but all of that it worth it when she comes to the breakdown after the second chorus. It's big, it's dramatic and it has soooo many good lines in it.
Delicate: 7/10
If I'm being totally honest, it took me a long time to come around to this song, to understand it's vulnerability. I think I really appreciated it once I heard the spotify acoustic version of it. I didn't understand the sort of trop-pop beat she used in the background but, it does have a lot of vulnerability in it and showcases her fears. I would have scored it higher if the production was a but different and if it didn't take me so long to like this song.
Look What You Made Me Do: 5/10
I don't think this song is bad. The thing is, this song isn't supposed to taken too seriously. It sounds like the type of theme song you'd give to a cartoon villain and it's SUPPOSED to. It's fun and she's poking fun at herself. It wouldn't be FAIR if I gave this song a high score because of all the songs on this album that are supposed to be taken seriously. It's unlike her other jokey songs (like Blank Space) where, you know this one is just for fun, there's no bigger take away. You can't take anyone seriously when they say they're dead.
So It Goes: 6.5/10
I found this one a little boring. There are a few good lines in it but there are there are others I could leave. I enjoyed hearing it live but I would have preferred Dancing With Our Hands Tied. Next.
Gorgeous: 8/10
This song is fun! It paints a fun picture too. Imagine being out with your friends and seeing a hot guy and gossiping about it to your friends while you're sipping on a margarita or something (I'm not bold enough to have whisky on ice, don't judge me). It's kind of just one of those summer songs you listen to while driving with the windows down (not after you had a drink though, obviously). Also I like that she finally name dropped her cats. I too end my evenings alone with my cat.
Getaway Car: 10/10
Definitely a standout on this album. It tells a complete and total story from start to finish and uses amazing imagery to do so. I think that the lyric "it hits you like a shotgun shot to the heart" alone just perfectly describes the feeling of being heartbroken about anything. You feel her ups and her downs in this song and every new verse builds anticipation to this epic ending. This is a song I think everyone is going to collectively look back on as one of her greats.
King Of My Heart: 10/10
I know other people would have given this song a lower rating but, I don't care. I love everything about this song. I love the production and how it builds. I love how it goes from her more or less giving up on the idea of being in love to her deciding that she love that person and they are enough for her. I think this song is so heartwarming and just the perfect love story.
Dancing With Our Hands Tied: 9/10
I think what Delicate lacks is made up in this song. It dives deeper into the fear that someone or something outside of her relationship can get in between and ruin it. It has poignant lyrics that makes you feel her hurt and her fear but by the end of the song she decides it would be worth it to be hurt if it meant she got to be with that person again and I think all in all, it's really beautiful in it's delicate nature.
Dress: 7.5/10
Yes, at times this song can be a little over the top and corny but, it shows off some of those intimate moments and I think the bridge in this song is one of the best she has ever written.
This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things: 7.5/10
I think out of all the songs involving the "kanye incident" this one is the most honest. Unlike IDSB and LWYMMD, it's written from a place of hindsight and it makes me happy that she can look back at that ridiculous situation and laugh at it. Also it's one of the most fun songs production wise and it's fun to sing along to. The mocking tone just kind of makes it fun too.
Call It What You Want: 10/10
I think this song really beautifully captures why Taylor needed and deserved the break she took before releasing this album and it makes me really happy that she was able to find her true love despite all the drama. I think this song just wraps a really nice bow around the album and sort of carries the over-arching theme of the album of a whole that, regardless of what people might say about you, the people who really care will stick by you no matter the weather.
New Years Day: 10/10
This song is simple but that's what makes it so perfect. It describes true love, staying with someone regardless how hard and tough things get and I think that's the type of love everyone looks for and in few words, Taylor captures that perfectly.
Overall rating: 7.9/10
I think this album would have ranked higher if it didn't take me so much time to come around to some of the songs but over time it has become one of my favourite Taylor albums
